Trying to Listen

It seems for the longest time we have been hearing over and over again the importance of listening to the Spirit in our lives and how critical it is and will be for our futures. As I was flipping through and reading a couple of articles from the Friend to Gabriela this morning, I was reminded again, to be sensitive to those promptings. On page 11, there are Conference Spotlight Cards, and one of the quotes on there was from Elder Uchtdorf and it said, "Don't let a day go by without doing something to act on the promptings of the Spirit."

It was late afternoon and I had put the girls down for naps to save them from the harsh afternoon sun and give them a break from the heat. I washed the dishes and swept the floor and then began reading from a book (and munching on chocolate cake I might add) when I got this idea that I should go and get a children's book from the library basket and take it down and read it to Gabriela and Sophia, who had decided to nap together. I keep feeling like my kids don't get enough individual time from me, so I thought I would surprise them, because I was sure they weren't sleeping yet. So I selected the Eric Carle book, Mr. Seahorse, and went downstairs only to find two cute kids sound asleep. So I thought I would try Julianne, who had still been awake the last time I checked, but she was out too. Max was the only one still awake, lying in his swing, so I decided somebody was going to get a story and it might as well be him. I sat down on the floor infront of his swing and read him the book. I even showed him the pictures. I actually read him into a slumber.

But you know what?

 I felt good.

And I feel like I acted on a prompting for the day.

And maybe I'll get even better at it the more I practice.
