Doesn't it often seem like the women carry more of the load in teaching our families the gospel of Jesus Christ. We seem to initiate Family Home Evening, Family Scripture Study, Family Prayer and Family Traditions.
As much as I would love for my husband to take on those responsibilities, I'm always amazed at how well he does when given an assignment. When I teach the girls I feel like I'm preaching. I'm trying so hard to drive the message home and I want to review and make sure they get what I'm teaching and try to teach it in several different ways. Miguel is usually quick to stop me before I go on for hours.
Now contrast that with his teaching style. Our most memorable Family Home Evening lessons have been ones he has given. After conference this past weekend, I wanted to have a lesson on service. I know everyone is shocked by that choice, but I handed it over to Miguel. He took a totally different approach than I would have done. He pulled out this picture of Christ washing the apostles feet and went over the story with the girls.
He then explained that we should be like Jesus and serve each other. So he decided that our activity was going to be washing each others feet. We all looked at each other a little stunned and the girls were quick to jump up and run to the bathroom. We all picked someone's feet to wash and all piled into our tiny bathroom. We put a stool in the tub and I washed Julianne's feet, she washed Papi's feet, he washed Sophia's feet, she washed Gabriela's, and she washed mine. He then placed this picture in our kitchen for the week to remind us to serve one another. It was perfect, simple, memorable, and a great teaching tool. He's a genius! I love him!
